What is lymphatic drainage used for?
Most of the time, lymphatic drainage massages are used to prevent lymphedema (or swelling because of lymph fluid build-up in the body after cancer treatment) . But it also can be used to treat rheumatoid arthritis (joint pain, swelling, and stiffness), fibromyalgia (chronic muscle and joint pain), chronic venous insufficiency (a condition where the leg veins aren’t working effectively, making it hard for the blood to return to the heart from the legs), and lipedema (excess fat accumulation disorder in the body, affecting 11% of Australian women)
Lymphatic massages are a part of a treatment regimen also known as decongestive lymphatic therapy or DLT among health experts. DLT often has the following components: lymphatic drainage massage, compression garments, exercise, and skincare. The end goal is to improve circulation throughout the lymphatic system and help manage lymphedema symptoms and other diseases.
