Most women come to us because something feels off. They cannot quite put their finger on it. They are eating well, getting enough sleep, doing the right things and still feeling heavy, puffy, tired, and not quite like themselves.
What they usually do not know is that all of those things have a common thread.
And that thread is the lymphatic system.
What is the lymphatic system?
Your lymphatic system is your body's built-in waste removal network. It is a system of vessels, nodes and tissues running throughout your entire body - from your legs all the way up through your face, neck and scalp.
Here is the simplest way to think about it.
Imagine a city's rubbish collection. The lymph vessels are the streets. The lymph nodes are the depots. The lymph fluid moving through them is the truck doing the rounds. When the trucks run every day, the streets stay clean. If the bin man stopped coming - bins overflow, smells build up, things start to break down.
In your body, that breakdown shows up as swelling, fluid retention, inflammation, sluggish digestion, poor skin and persistent fatigue.
Your lymphatic system is responsible for:
- Removing toxic waste from your cells
- Supporting your immune system - your lymph nodes are where your body fights bacteria and infection
- Regulating fluid balance throughout your body
- Absorbing fat-soluble nutrients from your digestive system
- Keeping your skin clear, your energy steady and your body functioning the way it should
And here's the part most people have never been told.
Unlike your heart, your lymphatic system has NO pump.
Your heart beats 100,000 times a day without you thinking about it. Your lymphatic system does not have that luxury. It relies entirely on you, your movement, your breathing, your daily habits, just to keep things moving.
When life gets sedentary, when stress builds, when you go through surgery, hormonal shifts or prolonged illness, the lymph slows down. And when it slows down, you feel it.
Signs your lymphatic system needs support
Your body is always communicating with you. The challenge is knowing how to listen.
Here are the most common signs that your lymphatic system is congested and asking for help:
🌊 Swelling or puffiness Fluid retention in the face, legs, arms or abdomen that does not resolve with rest. This is one of the most direct signals of sluggish lymphatic flow- excess fluid is sitting in your tissues because it is not being cleared efficiently.
🦠 Frequent infections or slow recovery Your lymph nodes are your immune system's first line of defence. They filter bacteria and activate your immune response. When they are congested, your immune system is slower and less effective, meaning you get sick more easily and take longer to recover.
😴 Chronic fatigue Persistent tiredness that sleep does not fix. When your lymphatic system is backed up, your body is essentially carrying its own waste load. That weight shows up as exhaustion, physical and mental.
⚖️ Cellulite and weight that will not shift Lymphatic congestion directly affects how fat is processed and stored in the body. If you are doing everything right with diet and exercise and still not seeing results in certain areas, poor lymphatic flow in those areas is often the reason.
✨ Skin issues Acne, rashes, dull skin, slow healing. Your skin is a major detoxification organ and it is one of the first places lymphatic congestion shows up visibly. When the internal system is backed up, the skin tries to compensate, and you see it on your face.
Why does it get congested?
A few things contribute to lymphatic congestion:
Sedentary lifestyle. Our lives are more sedentary than any previous generation. We sit at desks, in cars, on couches. Without regular movement, lymph flow slows dramatically. Even a 10-minute walk stimulates significantly more lymphatic flow than an hour of sitting.
Stress. When you are in fight-or-flight mode, rushing, worrying, multitasking, your body prioritises survival over healing. Lymphatic drainage gets deprioritised. Chronic stress means chronically congested lymph.
Winter. Cold weather slows everything down, including your lymphatic system. We move less, we sit more, we wrap up and stay still. This is exactly when your lymphatic system needs the most support.
Surgery, illness or hormonal changes. Any disruption to the body can affect lymphatic flow. Post-surgical swelling, hormonal shifts during perimenopause or menopause, and prolonged illness all impact how well the lymphatic system functions.
Poor hydration. Your lymph fluid is approximately 96% water. Dehydration is one of the fastest ways to slow lymphatic flow. Most people are chronically mildly dehydrated without realising it.
What you can do about it - starting today
The good news is that your lymphatic system responds quickly when you give it the right support. You do not need expensive treatments or complicated protocols. You need consistency.
Here is where to start:
1. Move every day Even gentle movement makes a significant difference. Walking, stretching, rebounding - anything that gets your muscles contracting around your lymph vessels. Aim for at least 8,000 to 10,000 steps daily.
2. Breathe deeply and do it intentionally Deep diaphragmatic breathing is one of the most powerful ways to stimulate lymphatic flow. The pressure changes in your chest cavity created by deep breathing literally pump lymph through your thoracic duct your main lymphatic drain. Try one to two minutes of slow belly breathing before you start your morning routine.
3. Hydrate properly Two and a half to three litres of water daily. More if you are exercising or in a dry environment. Your lymph needs water to flow.
4. Support your body with the right tools The Chelsey Jean Lymphatic Sequence using the Dual-Action Lymphatic Gloves takes two minutes a day and directly stimulates lymphatic flow through the correct technique and order. Used consistently, twice daily, it is the most impactful at-home practice for lymphatic health.
5. Consider compression therapy For those managing lymphoedema, lipoedema, chronic swelling or post-surgical recovery, pneumatic compression therapy is a powerful addition to the daily routine. The CJ+CO Circulate Full Body System provides professional grade compression therapy at home, 30 minutes while you relax is all it takes.
The Chelsey Jean approach
At Chelsey Jean Lymphatics, we have spent over 5 years making lymphatic health simple, effective and achievable for women at home.
Our products are naturopathically formulated to work with your lymphatic system, not just on the surface of your skin. The Lymphatics Body Cream, MAGfatics Oil Spray and FACEbiotics Cream are all designed to support lymphatic drainage as part of the daily Chelsey Jean Sequence.
Because your face is part of your lymphatic system too (also known as your glymphatic system). The puffiness, the redness, the fine lines that will not budge, these are often lymphatic signals, not just ageing. FACEbiotics works with the lymphatic system in your face and neck the same way the body cream works with the rest of your body, but includes hyaluronic acid.
Everything we make is designed to fit into your real life. Two minutes any time, EVERYDAY. Products that do not require a protocol manual. A sequence that becomes second nature within a week.
You are not supposed to feel this way
The fatigue, the puffiness, the skin that will not cooperate, the weight that sits there regardless of what you do - these are not inevitable. They are not just part of getting older. They are often signs that one system in your body needs a little more support.
And that system responds faster than most people expect.
